About
San Francisco / Portland
Photography has become a way of slowing down and paying closer attention to the world I move through every day. I started with a photography class in high school in Portland, and I have kept shooting since moving to San Francisco for Minerva University, most recently on a trip to Yosemite. I am drawn to it most when I am outside, working with natural light and wide open environments where the conditions are always changing. Since that class I have become more aware of how light affects how a picture will turn out, how a darkened structure against a glowing twilight sky can carry a real emotion, or how hiding part of a subject's face can actually show more. I enjoy photography because it is a way of holding onto a specific moment in time, not just the place but the feeling of actually being there. Landscapes are still my comfortable way to shoot, but pushing into portraits and other work showed me how interesting it is to work with a moving subject. I came into photography with curiosity, and I still have a long list of things I want to try.
